The Trilogy blog is a source for analytical articles, news and important company updates. Stay current on trending mycotoxins topics and risk mitigation strategies.

Certificates of Analysis play an essential role in ensuring customers have clear and reliable information about their reference standards.

A CoA includes key details such as the concentration of the toxin, expiration date, and storage recommendations, all in one convenient document. Having this information at your fingertips makes it easier to use standards confidently and correctly in the lab. At Trilogy, every reference standard we provide, whether stock or custom, comes with its own CoA. Below, you’ll find an example of a Trilogy CoA along with explanations of what each section means and why it matters.

CoA Glossary of Terms

A. Product Code
Product codes identify the type and format of a standard. TSL indicates a liquid standard, while TS indicates a dried standard that must be reconstituted to the listed volume. Numbers provide details such as concentration and package size. For example, TSL-314-10 is a 100 μg/mL T-2 standard in acetonitrile, packaged in 10 mL.

B. Lot Number
A lot number is a unique identifier for a specific production run of a standard. It ensures traceability, supports quality control, and maintains consistency across labs. Lot numbers also allow customers to access supporting technical documents through Trilogy’s online database.

C. Expiration Date
Expiration dates are based on Trilogy’s in-house, real-time stability studies of freezer, refrigerator, and room temperature conditions. TSL standards are stable for one year from the certificate date. TS standards are stable for 12 months before reconstitution and 6 months after. Stability applies only when stored in the original packaging under the listed conditions.

D. Volume
For liquid standards (TSL), this is the amount contained in the vial. For dried standards (TS), it is the volume needed to reconstitute the standard.

E. Solvent
For liquid standards (TSL), this is the solvent contained in the vial. For dried standards (TS), it is the solvent needed to reconstitute the standard.

F. Purity
The purity percentage is based on the raw material's validated purity.

G. Storage
Standards should be stored at 8 °C or below to maintain stability. Before use, allow them to reach room temperature and vortex for 10 seconds. If not needed further that day, return to the recommended storage conditions.

H. Compound
The mycotoxin compound(s) included in the standard.

I. Assigned Value
The assigned value is the verified concentration or property value established for the standard through validated testing.

J. Uncertaintity
Uncertainty is calculated following the ISO Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (GUM). Expanded uncertainty is the combined uncertainty multiplied by a factor of 2, giving 95% confidence. Factors considered include purity, volumetric devices, analytical instrument performance, and pipetting repeatability.

K. Certification Date
Date of completed manufacture and certification.
